Services for Mary Vernette Hacker, 85, will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home with Brother Jim Roberts officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 11:00 am until service time.  Mrs. Hacker, died Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Lakeside Retirement Community in McKenzie.  She was born on November 1, 1932 in McKenzie, TN to Clyde and Mary Zelma Cook Bannister. She was a member of McKenzie Church of Christ.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert “Bob” Lawrence Hacker, a sister Dorothy Mayo, and two brothers Brooks Bannister and Jimmy Bannister.

Mrs. Hacker was an active member of the McKenzie Church of Christ, known to both young and old for her sending of encouraging notes and birthday cards for many years. The birthday cards to youngsters always  contained a dollar bill. Once home-bound because of illness, some of those recipients, now adults, sent back to her cards of encouragement containing a dollar bill. Vernette had worked in the corporate office at Gaines Mfg., and for the McKenzie School District as retiring as a cafeteria worker at the McKenzie Elementary School.

Survivors include two sons Steven Michael Hacker of Florence, AL and David Hacker of McKenzie, daughter-in-law Angela Hacker of 
McKenzie, four grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers will be from the Church of Christ.  Known for her kindness and hospitality, she will be greatly missed, as will the family gatherings at her welcoming home. So we sorrow, but not as those who have no hope. (1 Thessalonians 4:13).

The family has asked to please consider donations instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the McKenzie Church of Christ, 16300 Highland Drive, McKenzie, TN  38201, and also Mrs. Hacker's family would like to express its thanks to the many visitors, caregivers, and sitters that displayed care and affection for her in these last months.
