Mrs. Juanita Elinor Finley, 92, Mrs. Finley, a school teacher for the City of Memphis Schools beginning in 1952 and remedial reading being her main subject, teaching for over 40 years, died Monday, September 6, 2021 at her residence. She was born on August 4, 1929 in McKenzie, Tennessee to Robert Newton and Jamie Kathlene Springer Brooks. She was a member of McKenzie First Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school for over 30 years and was a member of the Care Group and Book Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John R. Finley in 2012, her brothers Sammy Brooks, William Brooks, and Bobby Brooks.
Survivors include her daughter Cynthia (Hardy P.) Griffith, a son James Newton (Barbara Lanius) Finley, her grandchildren Rachel Gilbert, Elicia Horne, Julie Walsh, Mason Griffith, and Michael Lanius. Her great grandchildren Kalen, Sebastian, Anna, Jett, Holli, Sarah, Serenity, Levi, Troy, Brandon, and Sierra, also two great great grandchildren.
There will not be any funeral services at this time. There was a large get together for Mrs. Juanita’s birthday in August
