Laverne Scott Meek

Dateline: Bradenton, Florida Memorial services for LaVerne Scott Meek, 91, will be held October 22, 2011, at 2:00 pm at McKenzie Funeral Home in McKenzie, Tennessee. Inurnment was beside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 1:00 pm until service time. Mrs. Meek, a retired bank manager for banks in the Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida area, died Monday, October 3, 2011 at Freedom Village Nursing Home in Bradenton. She was born on September 26, 1920 in Trezevant, Tennessee to B. W. "Bud" and Lura Belle Stafford Scott. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Bradenton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Capt. Donald L. Meek, Retired US. Marine Corps, a grandson Paul C. Hauch, four brothers: Milton Scott, Garland Scott, Romney Scott and Leslie Scott. Survivors include a daughter Alice Lyne Summers of McKenzie, TN, two step-daughters Margo Pine of Seattle, Washington, Mareed Stollman of Bradenton, FL, a sister Daphne Childress of Gainesville, Georgia, three grandchildren: Marlene, Tal, and Gary, six great grandchildren: Sarah, Kate, Paul, Rachel, Caroline, and Grace.
