SHIRLEY ANN MARTIN Shirley Ann Martin was born on her grandfather's farm in the beautiful rolling hills of the Pillowville Community in Weakley County. Like so many in the area, her family was among the original settlers of rural Tennessee. Shirley was born on May 18, 1931. She entered Heaven's gates on January 21, 2013. Shirley was not only a consummate mother and homemaker, but also a successful businesswoman. For many years she participated in the jewelry and antique business. She loved people and showed her interest and compassion for others. Her family often said she never met a stranger and had a unique ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. Shirley had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs. It would have been unusual to find her without her bull terrier, Sassy or those before her. Shirley had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of McKenzie United Methodist Church for almost fifty (50) years. Shirley is survived by her husband of sixty two (62) years, Jack Martin, and her two (2) daughters Jacqueline Webb and Rebecca Bartelt with their husbands Ken, and Stan. Shirley is also survived by five (5) grandchildren, Ashley Adelman, Leslie Beaty, Andy Bartelt, Mark Webb, and Matt Bartelt . In addition, eleven (11) great grandchildren survive her. She was predeceased by her brother, Jack Simmons. The family received friends on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Brummitt - McKenzie Funeral Home. Reverend Larry Riley of McKenzie First United Methodist and Shirley's nephew, Pastor Jack Simmons jointly conducted the funeral service celebrating her life the following day on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Brummitt - McKenzie Funeral Home.
