MCKENZIE, TN Funeral services for Robert Lynn Putman will be Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, McKenzie, TN. Visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Putman, 75, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at McKenzie Health Care Center after a brave battle with brain cancer. He was born July 5, 1938 to the late John Robert Putman and Esther Lynn (Lawrence) Putman in New Albany, MS. He graduated from McKenzie High School, Mississippi State University and he received his Doctorate in Accounting from the University of Memphis. He joined the Army in 1960, had basic training in Fort Jackson, SC and served in the Army Reserves for six years. Dr. Putman was Professor of Accounting at Bethel University for twenty years and at the University of Tennessee at Martin for another twenty years. He had a CPA practice in McKenzie for many years and was a past Mayor of McKenzie. He was an active member of McKenzie First United Methodist church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. As a member of the McKenzie Rotary Club, he was twice honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He is survived by his wife, Marilynn of 51 years; a daughter Carol (Victor) Parkins of Milan, and a son Paul Robert (Traci) Putman of Paris; four grandchildren, Holland (Holly) Elizabeth Parkins, Jordan Myranda Parkins, John Tyler Putman and Blair LeAnn Putman. He also leaves a sister, Betty Highfil of McKenzie and three brothers, Tom (Martha) Putman of McKenzie, Jim ( Jo Ann) Putman of Jackson and Les (Judy) Putman of McKenzie. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made the McKenzie First United Methodist Church, Bethel University or the Charity of your choice.
