Obituary - Mrs. Sylvia Lee Martin (Feb. 13, 1934 - May 24, 2014) Mrs. Sylvia Lee Martin went to be with her Lord, Jesus, on May 24, 2014. She was on this earth for 80 years and during that time she brought happiness and love to all that knew her. She had a kind heart, a generous soul, and a quick wit. She will be dearly missed by those of us who were fortunate enough to know her, even if only for a short while. She was born Sylvia Lee Edwards on February 13, 1934 in a small community called Frog Jump, Tn. She was one of seven children (four girls and three boys). Her parents, Earnest & Rosa Lee Edwards, were farmers who believed in a strong work ethic and honest living. Sylvia exemplified these traits in all aspects of her life. She graduated from Spring Hill High School in Trenton, Tennessee where she was the captain of the ladies basketball team. She kept her competitive spirit from her basketball days throughout her entire life. She took great pride in her work from waitressing in her brother-in-law's café to being a Nurse's Aide at Oak Manor Nursing home in McKenzie, Tn. She never amassed any great wealth or accomplished any breakthrough feats, but she did provide great love to her husband and children and kept her unwavering faith in her Lord, Jesus, during difficult times. She now has her just reward. She married early in life to Raymond A. Martin. They were married for 46 years until he passed away in November, 1999. She leaves behind three children; Barbara Hunter, James Martin, and David Martin. She has several grandchildren and great grandchildren; Dr. Jennifer Hunter, Faith Hunter (also with her Lord, Jesus), James Chad Martin, Sheri Martin, Matthew Martin, Alexander Martin, Makenzie Martin, Brooklyn Kennedy, and Caleb Martin. She is survived by two sisters, Christine Hendrix and Nancy White. She was preceded in death by siblings Betty Joe Tarkington, Colin Gale Edwards, Jerry "Doc" Edwards, and Louis Edwards. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home, 1740 Cedar St, McKenzie, Tn. Sylvia was a longtime resident of McKenzie and considered it her home. She was also an active member of The First Baptist Church of McKenzie while living there. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday evening, May 28, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home. The memorial service is planned for Thursday morning, May 29, at 10:00 AM in the Brummitt-McKenzie Cedar Avenue Chapel, and concludes with the burial at Carroll Memorial Gardens. If you would prefer to make a donation in lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Parkinson's Wellness Chapter of Cincinnati, Ohio on her behalf would be greatly appreciated.
