Herman "Smitty" Carter

 Funeral Services for Herman “Smitty” Carter, 71, will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cedar Avenue Chapel of Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home. Brother Dennis Trull will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, McKenzie, TN. Visitation will be on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday 11:00 a.m. until service time.   Mr. Carter was a member of the First Baptist Church, McKenzie Lions Club for 30 plus years, and was active with the Heart Association and United Neighbors. He was born July 9, 1944 in Nashville, TN to Herman Carter Sr and Virginia McClure Hankins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Bob Thompson and Thomas Buckley and one sister Carol Carter.   Survivors include his wife of 37 years Shirley Townes Carter of McKenzie, one daughter Angie(Brent) Bruce of McKenzie, three brothers Glenn Carter of Buchanan, Richard Buckley of Bartlett and Paul Hankins of Ripley and two grandsons Tyler Bruce and Colby Bruce.
