Dorothy Grace Ramsay

    Dorothy “Dot” Grace Manner Ramsay passed away in Nashville, Tennessee on December 17, 2015. She was married to Brigadier General Dana Carleton Ramsay for 52 years before his death in 1999. Dot was born in Milan, Tennessee on December 15, 1927 to Albert Carl and Lula De Priest Manner. She had three brothers, Ralph, William and Wendell, and three sisters Joy, Margaret and Martha. She is survived by her two children, Sally Shymkiw (Walt) of McKenzie and Lisa Cole (Jonathan) of Nashville; four grandchildren, Cami Fricks of Camden, Courtney Kee of McKenzie, Anna Grace Cole, her namesake, and Ramsay Cole of Nashville; three great-grandchildren, Emma Webb of Camden, Cameron and Carter Kee of McKenzie; one sister, Martha Manner Acton and husband Ty of Birmingham and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were several dear, fun-loving friends, Faye Russell, Darrell King, Peggy Wrinkle, Melba Mosley, Dot Gill, Nellie Carroll, Mary Kee and Sue Sanders.       Dot lived a long and full 88 years surrounded by family and friends who adored her. She was blessed with excellent health until the last two months of her life. God blessed her life with love and laughter. Dot was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. She was a member of the McKenzie PTA where she served as President and Vice-President, a member and officer of the McKenzie Morning Glory Garden Club, Troop leader of her daughter Lisa’s Brownie Troop, President and Vice-President of the Tennessee National Guard Auxiliary and Sunday School teacher at McKenzie Church of Christ. Her most beloved role was playing Minnie Pearl in the McKenzie and surrounding towns’ rendition of Hee Haw to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. A great highlight for her was meeting Minnie Pearl in person.        Dot was a lifelong member of the McKenzie Church of Christ where her funeral will be held Monday, December 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Brothers Jim Roberts and John Forgy will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery beside her late husband.
