Johnny L. Smith, age 71 of Gallatin, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018.  Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 10th from the chapel of Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home (1740 East Cedar Avenue, McKenzie, TN  38201) at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie, TN, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be Friday, March 9th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home (100 Albert Gallatin Avenue, Gallatin, TN  37066) and Saturday, March 10th from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home (1740 East Cedar Avenue, McKenzie, TN 38201). Mr. Smith was born October 24, 1946 in Trezevant, TN, to the late William Henry “Bill” Smith and Eleanor “Dale” Ingram Willis.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Angie Melson; brother, Buddy Smith; and sister, Kay Markunas.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Faust Smith of Gallatin; son, Chris Smith of Gallatin; brother, Gary Willis; four grandchildren, Tanner Smith (Tabbie), Jessi Smith, Sam Melson, and Mei Melson; aunts, Margie Adams and Ann Seavers; nieces and nephews, cousins, and five sisters-in-law.   Mr. Smith was the youngest employee, at age 21, to work for National Trust Life; the company changed its name to Commonwealth Life Insurance Company in Louisville, KY, where he retired after 35 years of service.  He was instrumental in beginning the Little League Baseball Program in McKenzie, TN, where he was a coach and served as president of the Little League.  Mr. Smith loved people and made his life about caring for and mentoring others.  He leaves behind a host of friends.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McKenzie Little League, c/o Jennifer Waldrup @ City Hall, 2470 Cedar St., McKenzie, TN  38201.  Online condolences may be submitted at alexanderheritagefh.com.  Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home has been honored with arrangements.  Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home will be in charge of the McKenzie arrangements, if more information is needed you may call 731-352-4848 or visit the funeral home’s web site; brummittmckenziefuneralhome.com
